Cosmetic Sclerotherapy Treatment Cleveland, OH

At Smith Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Smith performs cosmetic sclerotherapy on the legs using the FDA cleared sclerosing agents. Following each treatment session, compression stockings are then worn for several days up to a week or so, depending on the size and severity of treated surface veins. The treatment interval for cosmetic sclerotherapy is usually every 3-4 weeks, with 3-4 sessions per treatment area the norm.

What solutions are used to inject?

We use Sotradecol or polidocanol which are both FDA approved solutions for spider and varicose veins. We do not use hypertonic saline because it is painful, stains the skin and can cause ulceration. The solutions we use are not painful at all. The solution causes the vessel walls to be damaged and then your body reabsorbs the damage just like a bruise.

I’ve had injections before and they didn’t work. Why?

The reason the injections didn’t work is typically because the cause of the problem was not identified and treated. When you come for your consultation, we will offer to show you the veins that are causing your spider veins and tell you how we treat those either at the same time in most cases to clear your spider veins.

Do I have to wear compression stockings after?

Yes we have you wear compression stockings for 1-2 weeks after the procedure. This helps to “stick” the vessel walls together and speeds up the fading process. We will supply your stockings here on your first visit.
